When I saw the back of the Sony Xperia PX concept I instantly thought about the Sony Tablet P for some reason, because of how rounded the lower part of that device was. This is yet another one of Ben Ling’s creations, a 4 inch TFT display handset with a 13 megapixel camera at the back and a pretty big screen resolution.
Xperia PX supports a 640 x 1136 pixel resolution and its camera uses Exmor RS technology, supports 16x digital zoom and does Full HD video recording. There’s also a 1.3 megapixel front camera and inside we’ve got a dual core Snapdragon S4 1.2 GHz processor with Adreno 320 GPU. This Sony Xperia concept smartphone measures 10 mm and packs NFC, 1 GB of RAM, 32 GB of storage, Sony Mobile Bravia Engine 3 tech and the omnipresent xLOUD experience.
The handset weighs 106 grams and runs Android 4.0.4 with support for Jelly Bean updates. Other specs include a Li-Ion 1910 mAh battery, Bluetooth 4.0, a microSD card slot and multitouch with up to 10 fingers. As you can see, this model uses virtual Android keys and has a camera button, common traits for modern Android devices. The design at the front seems a bit similar to the one of the Xperia Ion and now that I think of it, the back is also pretty similar…

Sanjay Lal imagined a brand new Nintendo Tablet PC, although the new Wii U does seem to involve something pretty close to a tablet itself. The new Nintendo slate resembles a windshield, if you ask me and it seems to sit pretty comfortably in the user’s hand, in spite of the relatively tiny bezels.
I noticed that the device is arched in both its sides at the back, in order to be held better, using the fingers to support that side. If I were to guess a diagonal here I’d say around 8 inches or so, a widescreen display included and maybe some Android in the mix, or even Nintendo’s brand new open source OS. The CPU would be the already famous quad core Snapdragon S4 Pro, this time at 1.8 GHz through an upgrade and we’d also get 2 GB of RAM and Full HD resolution on this baby, or maybe 1200p.
It’s strange that the Nintendo tablet doesn’t seem to feature a camera, not at the front and not in the back. Anyway I can imagine that there’s a special stand for the device and compatibility with other Nintendo accessories, like the Wiimotes. 64 GB of storage would also be welcome, plus a generous battery, somewhere around 10000 mAh. I’m only speculating here, since Sanjay Lal didn’t reveal anything about his project. What do you think?

Sony Xperia Yuga has been imagined in a fresh concept by Sanjaya Kanishka. The designer envisions a smartphone with a 5 inch FHD IPS+ LED backlit TFT display, relying on Mobile Bravia Engine 2 technology and also White Magic tech, as well as floating touch tech. Xperia Yuga measures 9.4 mm in thickness and weighs 135 grams.
The 5 inch screen on board supports a 1920 x 1080 pixel resolution and has Gorilla Glass 2 protection. Under the hood of this Sony Xperia render there’s a quad core Krait CPU, a 1.7 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro unit with Adreno 320 GPU. There’s also 2 GB of RAM, 32 GB of storage, a microSD card slot and at the back we’ve got a 13 megapixel camera with Exmor RS lens, 2160p capture at 30 fps and 1080p 60 fps HDR video recording, plus LED and Xenon flashes.
Sanjaya Kanishka also added a 2 megapixel front camera with 720p video recording, as well as LTE, HSUPA, EDGE and WiFi. There’s also Bluetooth 4.0, NFC, HDMI and Android 4.2 Jelly Bean as the OS. We’ve got a multi window option, just like on the Galaxy Note II, hopefully without a lawsuit. As far as battery goes, Yuga offers a 3200 mAh Li-Ion user removable battery. There’s even a price imagined for this model: $560, that’s actually pretty reasonable. Once again, this is only a concept, not a real device. It resembles the Xperia T a bit if you ask me…

We’ve seen many Samsung Galaxy S4 concepts on this site, but the idea of an S4 Mini is fresh and new. Ben Ling imagined both, with the result being the image below. We’re dealing with a 5 inch S4, nothing unpredictable, a model with a Full HD Super AMOLED Plus TFT display, with Gorilla Glass 2 protection.
The Galaxy S4 Mini is a 4.55 inch smartphone, also with a Super AMOLED TFT screen, but a HD one. TouchWiz UI is present on both and both support multitouch with up to 10 fingers. The bigger S4 uses a quad core 1.9 GHz CPU, while the smaller one goes down to 1.5 GHz. At the back we have a 13 megapixel camera with LED flash and an 8 megapixel shooter respectively, both with 16x digital zoom and 1080p video recording. Other specs include Android 4.2 Jelly Bean, 2 GB of RAM, NFC, 16/32/64 GB of storage.
The Samsung Galaxy S4 specs include a Li-Ion 2500 mAh battery, while the S4 Mini adopts a Li-Ion 2100 mAh one. Finally we get LTE and a waistline of 9.1 mm and 8.9 mm respectively. The device is a bit less rounded than the S3 and features totally capacitive buttons below the screen, so Samsung has supposedly given up the physical Home button. Doable or not?

This is not exactly the Nokia N10 that everyone is expecting, but it’s still something that may become real: a Nokia Jolla Sailfish OS handset, created by Sanjaya Kanishka. As you know already, Jolla is a Finnish startup made out of people who left Nokia and wanted a new direction. This direction involves Sailfish OS, a platform based on swiping that may remind you of MeeGo.
Back to the concept you see here, the Nokia Jolla phone features a 4.6 inch True HD IPS+ screen, with a 768 x 1280 pixel resolution and 332 ppi pixel density. The same screen uses PureMotion HD+ ClearBlack technology and Corning Gorilla Glass 2. Other specs include a dual core Cortex A15 processor, a TI OMAP 5432 chipset with a PowerVR SGX544MP2 GPU. The device also features a 4 row sliding physical QWERTY keyboard, 2 GB of RAM, 16 GB of storage and a microSD card slot.
At the back we’re got an 8 megapixel camera with both Carl Zeiss technology and PureView technology, as well as Xenon flash. The cam offers 1080p 60 fps video capture and optical image stabilization. Other technologies on board of the Jolla Sailfish OS phone include LTE, HSUPA+, Bluetooth 4.0, NFC and Dolby technology. Finally, powering up the gizmo is 2700 mAh Li-Ion battery. The facade of the smartphone looks really appealing, while the keyboard seems comfy.
Is it just me or does Sailfish OS look a bit like MeeGo and BlackBerry 10 OS?

Shahin Jazirian has sent us a new Samsung Galaxy concept called Samsung Galaxy King, that’s pictured below. It has a pretty unusual shape, that reminds me of some cool rock guitars, with those sharp corners. The device is shown to us in black and white and it’s got a sloped upper and lower side, with a sharp corner on each diagonal.
I’m not sure how comfortable such a smartphone would be to hold, but what’s sure is that the specs are pretty nice. Samsung Galaxy King comes with a 5 inch 1080p display, a Super AMOLED one, 64 GB of storage, 2 GB of RAM and an Exynos 5450 quad core Cortex A15 processor and a 13 megapixel camera. There’s also the S Voice system available on board, plus active noise cancellation with dedicated microphone. We get TV out via MHL as usual, plus Swype input and Android 5.0, that in this case gets codenamed Double Burger for some reason.
Touchwiz applied to the OS is still here and if you ask me, I’d prefer the Android keys at the bottom to be virtual, rather than capacitive ones. The black version of the handset makes me think of carbon fiber for some reason, so maybe it uses such a material, or maybe not… who knows, actually? What do you think of this concept phone?

You probably know that every once in a while we like to cover the occasional PSP 2 concept or PlayStation Phone, but it’s been a while since the last concept like this was published here. Luckily we came across Jung Ou Yang’s work and he created a brilliant Sony PSP 2 render, that you can see below, in full detail. Stunning, simply stunning!
I’ve seen this idea before and loved it every time: two solid parts and a small and thin display between then, perhaps even a flexible display, although I can’t guarantee that. The Sony PSP 2 features Bluetooth, WiFi, 3G, a front and rear camera, plus a transparent OLED screen that’s probably 5 inches in diagonal. The device is very easy to hold with two hands and very easy to handle. It feels more like a bigger joystick, than a full fledged console, which is cool.
I should also mention that the concept dates from back in 2009, according to the designer, making it even more interesting. The general layout of the D pad, analog sticks and action buttons is pretty much the same as the one we already know, but everything is just… more futuristic and minimalistic. I like how the designer included the charging port on the right inner side and the audio jack and mini USB port on the left inner side. This is certainly a console I’d buy and the shoulder buttons look classier than ever. Simply great!

Ben Ling emailed us two new Sony Xperia concepts, the F and FL models, that are actually not that different, as you can see in the images below. Basically, we’re dealing with two 4.8 inch TFT display smartphones, one with illuminations alert (the F model) and the other one without.
So, Sony Xperia F (picture above) and FL (pictured below) come with 13 and 14 megapixel cameras respectively with LED flash and their screens support HD resolutions. The cameras use Exmor RS sensor technology and support 16x digital zoom. There’s also Full HD video recording available and the handsets use a 1.9 megapixel and 2 megapixel camera at the front respectively. The F relies on a quad core 1.5 GHz Krait CPU and the FL has a slightly upgraded 1.7 GHz Krait chipset. The GPU is Adreno 320 for both and other features include NFC, Xperia Home Launcher, 2 GB of RAM for the F and a crazy 4 GB for the FL.
4G LTE and Android 4.2 Jelly Bean are also in the mix and the lower specced unit will come with 32 GB of storage, while the higher end one provides 64 GB. Sony Mobile Bravia Engine 4, xLOUD and a Standard Li-Ion 2500 mAh battery round up the features list. So, how do you feel about these concepts? Isn’t 4GB of RAM a bit too much?

We’re barely into Android 4.2 and heard speculations about a supposed Android 5.0 being spotted in some benchmark and already there are talks about Android 9.0. At least so it would seem from this leaflet of a Christian tablet with this OS on board, obviously a mistake in these crazy days we call Black Friday 2012. Oh, by the way Happy Thanksgiving!
This funky mistake was spotted thanks to @kevinCTofel’s tweet and this tablet sounds pretty interesting at this price, especially since it has a HDMI port, which the Nexus 7 and iPad Mini don’t. If you wonder what this is doing on Concept Phones, well we thought to lighten up the mood for the holidays and actually dream about Android 9.0 for a change. There’s no doubt in my mind that the next Android will be version 5.0, but what’s next?
I guess that they will pull out a few more releases for Android 5.0, make the OS more diverse, unite it with all the Chrome goodies and run it on Chromebooks and full fledged laptops. The idea is that in about 3 year from now we’ll have a Google OS so good that it easily replaces Windows. And with Google aiming at becoming a cellular carrier and Internet provider, you’ll run out of the excuse of saying “I don’t want to have an OS that requires Internet, since I may disconnect”, since connections will be omnipresent. How’s that for a future?

Another day, another take on the Samsung Galaxy S4 design, this time from Nikolai Prettner. He also envisions the new TouchWiz, version 6.0, that he describes in the image below. TouchWiz 6.0 brings a big revamp of the whole concept, in order to truly compete with other smartphones and launchers on Android devices.
As far as the Samsung Galaxy S4 goes, it features a 12 megapixel main camera, a 4.5 megapixel front facing HD camera, a 1.9 GHz quad core processor and a 1080p Super AMOLED Plus flexible display, with a 5.1 inch diagonal. Other specs include an SD card slot, LTE, HSPA+, light sensor, wireless charging and 2650 mAh battery. The device comes in 16 GB, 32 GB and 64 GB versions. This handset runs Android Key Lime Pie 5.0 with TouchWiz 6.0, S Gestures, S Voice, S Note and S Music.
The design involves an aluminum frame, plastic back, flexible plastic screen and everything weighs 102 grams, so 10 grams less than the iPhone 5, but with a much bigger size. The thickness is also 7.5 mm, 0.1 mm less than the iPhone 5. TouchWiz 6.0 brings an improved S Voice, while the screen has S Note capabilities and S Gestures allows you to create custom gestures and trigger various features. The concept sounds very realistic to me. Does it sound the same to you?

Wooseok Suh designed a very interesting concept smartphone called Another World, that somehow reminds us of Tron. The idea is to have a very clean interface and design, that blend together seamlessly. There seems to be a center ring on the phone, displaying its features, that are shown on the surface of the device with projections or similar mechanisms.
Another World Phone is a very thin device, with a slightly curved facade and a pretty long body. That central ring of the phone may remind one of the iPod’s center ring and I can’t really figure out if the entire front of the device is a display, or only the upper part. Anyway, the idea is very original and if the UI truly involves laser projections on the surface of the device, it’s an even more original phone, but one that’s not very comfortable.
I imagine that the ring on the front has a corresponding circular area at the back, which hosts the camera sensor. For some reason I’d imagine HTC or ASUS designing such a device and selling it as a fashion phone or haute couture item made of carbon. Ready for the Tron Phone?
