Nokia Normandy Android Phone Gets Rendered in Detail

Apparently the Finns bought by Microsoft are secretly working on a Nokia Android phone in the labs and sources say it’s coming sooner than you think. Based on the leaks, designer Jonas Daehnert pulled off an entire gallery of renders of the Nokia Normandy, as the device is codenamed right now.

Apparently, Nokia wants to separate from the main Android vision, just like Amazon and give the OS its own twist. Sources are saying that this model is designed as sort of an Asha unit, an equivalent to lower cost devices, that offer access to standard smartphone apps. I’m pretty sure Microsoft won’t allow this anytime soon, so don’t get your hopes up.

The designer behind this Nokia concept claims it comes with a 4 inch 16:10 screen and that the handset measures 9.2 mm. It also comes in a variety of colors, that include green, cyan, black, white and obviously red. From what I can see there are no capacitive buttons here, neither Windows Phone ones, nor Android ones, only a singular Back button. The facade of the Normandy is similar to the Fabula design, while the back is also pretty standard to the Nokia design series.
Will a Nokia with Android exist in the future? What do you think?

HTC One 2/ HTC M8 Take 3: Techradar Create a Superb 3D Render (Video)

After seeing a bunch of HTC M8 renders that more or less impressive, we’ve found a truly fantastic piece of work here by TechRadar. Owen Hughes tipped us about this beautiful render, that’s detailed in the video below on the TechRadar YouTube channel.
HTC One 2/ HTC M8 Take 3: Techradar Create a Superb 3D Render (Video)
This is pure gadget pr0n, since this HTC One 2 as they call it adopts an innovative compound construction for improved ergonomics. We’ve got a 2.3 GHz quad core Snapdragon 800 CPU inside, 3 GB of RAM and a 4000 mAh battery. The screen is a 5 inch 2K display, an edge to edge unit that looks stunning and is very crisp.

Android 4.4 KitKat and HTC Sense 6.0 take care of the software side of things, while a 10 Ultrapixel camera can be found at the back. The camera has a new UI and the general UI is now more fluid and better organized. We’ve got a fingerprint sensor integrated into the HTC logo at the bottom of the screen, that unlocks the device with a single touch.
The HTC M8 comes in 16, 32 and 64 GB storage versions with microSD card slot included in the mix.

The Nokia Communicator is Back! Lumia 1001 Render Awakens its Spirit!

David Quijada takes a lot of risks with the Nokia Lumia 1001 concept, especially since he leaves a lot of room empty in the keyboard part of the device. The result is a brand new Communicator, a device that’s a redesign of the Nokia 9300.
The Nokia Communicator is Back! Lumia 1001 Render Awakens its Spirit!
From what I can see, we’re getting a dual display device and the back side of the keyboard looks particularly cool, especially the camera integration and surrounding area, probably with speakers included there as well. The QWERTY keyboard is well lit, but oddly spaced and we’ve also got a D pad probably for games and such.
The long rectangle format of the screen may be weird in landscape mode, but seems to work in portrait. If this device would be just a tiny bit wider, it would be solid gold. Is there any room on the market of 2014 for a Windows Phone-based Nokia Communicator of sorts?

Xiaomi Preparing Own Modular Phone, the Magic Cube; Here’s a Render!

It appears that the Motorola Ara and Phoneblocks are in good company, now that Xiaomi is preparing its own modular phone. We’ve got a render to go with that information and it’s shown below.
Xiaomi Preparing Own Modular Phone, the Magic Cube; Heres a Render!
You know the basics here: you have a core device and you add pieces of technology to it, like extra RAM, extra storage and all sorts of camera modules and connectivity modules. Xiaomi has something called the Magic Cube planned and seeing how they have one of Google’s men on the team, Hugo Barra, I expect great things from them.
The Xiaomi modular phone‘s render was shown on the company CEO’s Weibo profile page, but it has been removed since. The device looks a bit like the Project Ara from Moto, only it has less switchable parts, something 3 or 4 of them. The other modular handsets we’ve seen till now even had 8 to 10 pieces to swap out. Will this trend die or is it here to stay?

HTC One 2/ HTC M8 New Render is a Blocky Rectangle

HTC M8 is coming and I mean the follow-up to the HTC One. No matter what the name will be, the device has to be spectacular, or else HTC may not have a future. Well, Christof Gruber has his own vision of the new device and he shows it to us below.
HTC One 2/ HTC M8 New Render is a Blocky Rectangle
This HTC M8 concept features a 9 mm thick case and a 4.95 inch 2K display, as well as a quad core Snadpragon 800 CPU. The OS here is Android 4.4.1 with HTC Sense 6.0. We’ve got 4 GB of DDR3 RAM inside, 32 GB of storage and a 6 Ultrapixel camera. Upfront there’s a 2.9 MP cam and on board we find HTC Zoe 2, GPS, Glonass, WiFi and BoomSound.
The battery here is a 3200 mAh unit, that would explain how bulky this model seems. Infrared is included among the specs, plus a fingerprint scanner that I spotted below the camera. The cam seems to have a dual LED flash and the screen upfront looks like an edge to edge affair. Does this device look blocky or what?
[Thanks Christof Gruber]

HTC M8 Take 1: Ancel Lim Version

We’re probably a month or at most two away from the big unveiling of HTC’s new flagship phone, also known as HTC M8. I’m pretty sure the codename won’t stick, since the HTC One was the M7 before it. Today we catch a glimpse of the newcomer as imagined by Ancel Lim.
HTC M8 Take 1: Ancel Lim Version
He gathered all the info he had from various leaks and created this render you see here. The second generation HTC one comes with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 805 new generation processor, a quad core 2.2 GHz Krait 400 CPU, as well as a Full HD 5 inch screen with Gorilla Glass 2 protection. We’ve also got a microSD card slot inside, 4G LTE connectivity and NFC.
There will be a dual SIM version of HTC M8, without 4G and Snapdragon 800, but rather with a quad core 1.7 GHz Krait 300 CPU. Keep in mind that Beats Audio is gone here, but we do have BoomSound speakers at the front. The novelty here compared to the predecessor is that the handset is thinner, flatter, more rectangular and it has smaller bezels.

Finally a Rival for the Lumia: Sony Windows Phone Cybershot Handset

The Nokia Lumia Pureview handset is seen by many as the ideal cameraphone and its rivals usually come from the Android ecosystem. Meanwhile, the older Windows Phone partners are sitting idle. Now what we get here is a Sony Windows Phone device, made by David Quijada, the sort of wet dream we’ve seen from the early days of Windows Phone.
Finally a Rival for the Lumia: Sony Windows Phone Cybershot Handset
The handset seems to adopt the famous Lumia yellow and it has an elongated body with a Cybershot camera with a metallic cover in the lens area. For some reason we get a very big camera button, unless it’s a zoom button of sorts and the handset seems to be made of glossy polycarbonate. The name of the Windows Phone concept is Sony Xperia Pix and this may make sense since the first Xperias were Windows Mobile devices actually.
I’d see this long phone with a 6 inch Full HD screen, a 20 megapixel Lens G camera, Snapdragon 800 CPU and 32 GB of storage. Windows Phone 8.1 should be included here, as well as a slew of camera apps NOT made by Nokia, if possible. Can Sony deliver that cameraphone?

Samsung Galaxy J Teaser Trailer Sparks Debate About Galaxy S5 Launch Tomorrow (Video)

Leave it to Samsung to know how to create controversy… They posted a teaser video on their YouTube account in Taiwan, that people have quickly speculated it’s in fact an announcement of the Samsung Galaxy S5. The new handset is expected to debut tomorrow and it’s in fact the Galaxy J.
Samsung Galaxy J Teaser Trailer Sparks Debate About Galaxy S5 Launch Tomorrow (Video)
This model was previously unveiled a few weeks ago and now it could be launched tomorrow in Taiwan. There’s a still a very, very small possibility we may see a metallic Galaxy S5, but odds are that the Galaxy J will be the big deal here. This would mark Samsung’s foray into metallic handsets, something they haven’t tackled before.
Samsung Galaxy J Teaser Trailer Sparks Debate About Galaxy S5 Launch Tomorrow (Video)
This smartphone will adopt a metallic case, a 5 inch Super AMOLED display with Full HD resolution and Android 4.2 as the OS. It also has 32 GB of storage, a microSD card slot, a 13.2 megapixel rear camera with OIS and a front 2 megapixel shooter. There’s also a 2600 mAh battery inside and I’m pretty sure there’s also LTE-A in there somewhere.

Primus is an Ubuntu Touch Smartphone render With Lots of Gloss

Created by Naveen Kumarasinghe early this month, the Ubuntu Touch concept phone shown below is named Primus and it represents an interesting piece of gear. First of all, we seem to be dealing with a combo between metal and glass, perhaps even a transparent phone.
Primus is an Ubuntu Touch Smartphone render With Lots of Gloss
The designer of the device didn’t share any details, so we’ve got to speculate here. I’m pretty sure that the upper side of this Ubuntu Touch phone is made of metal and the lower side is transparent glass. The Primus also seems to be an edge to edge display device, which keeps up with the modern trends suggested by the LG G2 and the likes.
This handset feels rather short and “fat”, perhaps with a diagonal closer to 4.3 inches rather than 5. It’s also a bit more squared than your average smartphone and closer to a Lumia format, if you want. From what I can see, the Ubuntu Touch Primus unit is very slim and has an intuitive way of accessing the main apps from a list on the left of the screen.
From what I know this left edge allows you to access apps pinned to the launcher and if you swipe all the way across you can reveal the Home area, with apps, files and contacts. Multitasking is done by swiping the finger from the right edge to the left, switching to a previous app.

Windows Phone 9 Concept Finally Brings a Decent Shortcut Area

Ghani Pradita from Indonesia shows us his concept for Windows Phone 9, an OS that has been rumored to unify Windows 8 and Windows Phone 8 under one common roof. The designer of this UX/UI focuses more on useful stuff like notifications and accessibility.
Windows Phone 9 Concept Finally Brings a Decent Shortcut Area
For one thing, the “widgets”, as he calls them will be scrollable horizontally, like on Windows 8. I guess he’s talking about an evolved version of the dynamic tiles, that will now be moved on the screen, pretty much like we do in Xbox Music. Then there’s the aspect I like the most about Windows Phone 9: you can swipe down to open a panel of shortcuts, just like on Android.
The design here fits perfectly with the simplicity of Windows Phone and all the shortcuts are vital ones. Just have a look at the LG G2 notification area and you’ll think one thing: clutter. Finally, we also get a lockscreen concept, that allows us to have a small peek at the tiles behind it. Pretty cool right?
